As I reflect on this week’s journey of transitioning from being an employee to embracing entrepreneurship, consulting in one of the craziest industries, freight forwarding, I’ve delved deeper into the responsibilities that come with seeking out opportunities and performing exceptionally. In this dynamic industry, where relationships and reputation are paramount, each opportunity represents more than just a task to be completed โ it’s a chance to leave a lasting impact.
Whether it’s a client entrusting me with their logistics needs or a business partner seeking collaboration, there’s an implicit expectation that I will not only meet but exceed their expectations. Performing exceptionally at these opportunities is a dual responsibility โ it’s a gift and a responsibility that I acknowledge and embrace wholeheartedly.
People are taking a risk by bringing me into their organization, with the expectation that I will leave it better than I found it. It’s about executing on the tasks assigned with precision, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence. Moreover, it’s about making those who have entrusted me feel confident that they made the right decision.
Fostering trust, building relationships, and delivering results that not only meet but surpass expectations are integral to this responsibility. Each opportunity is a chance to showcase my skills, expertise, and dedication to making a positive impact in the industry. This responsibility is not to be taken lightly. It’s about recognizing the trust placed in me and rising to the occasion, time and time again.
As I navigate this entrepreneurial journey focusing on the freight forwarding industry, I am reminded of the words of Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Excelling in opportunities is not just about the tasks themselves; it’s about the relationships forged, the trust built, and the impact made.
Though being an entrepreneur is risky I’ve come to realize the importance of acknowledging the risks associated with traditional employment. In today’s landscape, where companies are often looking to save costs by cutting positions or outsourcing overseas, being an employee is no longer a guarantee of stability and security. I remind myself of this risk every time I question if I’ve made the right decision. I not only have a responsibility to myself but my family and this risk I take sits squarely on my shoulders.
Entrepreneurship offers a level of autonomy and control over one’s destiny that is not afforded by traditional employment. By embracing entrepreneurship, individuals in the freight forwarding industry can proactively mitigate these risks and chart a more secure and fulfilling path. Being in control of one’s destiny is scary and exhilarating at the same time and combines so well with the frenetic nature of freight forwarding. To say I am a bit of a thrill junky is an understatement. I take leaps out of airplanes just as I have taken leaps in my career, with the faith my parachute will open.
